Single Regeneration Budget Funding

The Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) was set up by the Government in 1994 to bring together a number of programmes and initiatives from several Government Departments. The aim was to simplify and streamline the assistance available for regeneration, and it provides the resources to support regeneration initiatives carried out by local regeneration partnerships. The main priority of SRB is to enhance the quality of life of local people in areas of need by reducing the gap between deprived and other areas, and between different groups.

Local regeneration partnerships, such as the Rotherham Partnership, have taken part in annual bidding rounds in response to published bidding guidance from Regional Development Agencies, such as Yorkshire Forward. To date, six bidding rounds have been held. With effect from March 2001, SRB funds have been subsumed into Regional Development Agencies Single Programmes and no further bidding rounds are expected. Rotherham Partnership made successful bids to all six bidding rounds for SRB funding. As a result, a number of SRB Schemes have been or are being delivered in Rotherham. These are summarised below:-

  • SRB1 Shaping Rotherham’s Future (completed).
  • SRB2 Eastwood and Oakhill Challenge (completed).
  • SRB3 Young People Sharing Rotherham’s Future.
  • SRB4 New York Riverside.
  • SRB5 Helping Communities Build a Better Future.
  • SRB6 A New Economy for the 21st Century.

Each of the Schemes identified above have a differing remit and timescale. Some focus on distinct areas in which regeneration activity is targeted to improve the quality of life for local residents. Other Schemes have a broader, more strategic remit tackling a number of regeneration issues.
